AC Milan not only lost the duel with Parma (0-1) and seems unable to keep pace with the leader Inter. The disaster at the San Siro was compounded by the serious injury suffered by its central midfielder, Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
In fact, it started with the English international! In the opening match, the former Chelsea midfielder was accidentally hit on the head by Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi during a duel for the ball.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek was bleeding from the mouth
Loftus-Cheek collapsed on the turf, blood pouring from his mouth. The doctors rushed to give him first aid, determining that he could no longer continue. After being fitted with a neck brace, the 30-year-old England international was stretchered off the pitch and rushed to hospital.
The diagnosis? Sky Sport Italia later reported that Loftus-Cheek suffered a fractured jaw and will be out for several months. There were also reports that one of his teeth was broken in the incident.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, in danger of missing the 2026 World Cup
The midfielder thus became uncertain for the 2026 World Cup. The England coach, Thomas Tuchel, brought him back to the national team at the start of the 2025 – 2026 season, after an absence of 7 years. “The German appreciates him for his physicality and versatility, but a long-term absence could take him out of his sights, especially as he is not among the key players in the national team's gear,” writes tabloid The Sun.
Even the player admitted at one point: “For me, first of all, it's important to stay fit, stay healthy and continue to play well for my club. If I do that, I think I have a good chance to make the squad for the 2026 World Cup and who knows what can happen at the final tournament.”
