Russia will provide Iran with modern military equipment
According to the agreement, deliveries are planned in three tranches, in the years 2027–2029, the daily added. The agreement was negotiated between Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport and the Moscow representative of the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Logistics of the Armed Forces.
Tehran formally requested these systems in July last year, according to the agreement obtained by “FT”.
There is already a strategic partnership treaty in force between Russia and Iran, although it does not contain a mutual defense clause. On January 19, Russian and Iranian forces conducted joint exercises in the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean.
In recent weeks, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran with intervention, including military attack, if an agreement to limit the country's nuclear program is not reached. The US has strengthened its military presence in the Middle East.

The US and Iran resumed talks on the nuclear deal at the beginning of February, conducted through Oman. After the first round of negotiations, on February 6, Reuters reported that Iran rejected American calls to completely stop uranium enrichment. After the second round, which took place on February 17, Aragchi declared that the guiding principles of the negotiations had been agreed with the American side. “This does not mean that we will reach an agreement soon, but the way has been opened,” he added.
