On February 22, World Day against Tick-Borne Encephalitis, Rospotrebnadzor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory reminded residents that vaccination against it is the only reliable way to prevent serious disease and its consequences.
You can get vaccinated all year round, but epidemiologists say that it is better to do this before the start of the tick season.
“Basic immunization schedule consists of 3 vaccinations – 2 vaccinations with an interval of 1 to 7 months and revaccination after 12 months. 3 vaccinations is a complete course of vaccination that guarantees protection. This is followed by distant revaccinations – vaccination once every 3 years. At emergency or accelerated vaccination scheme the interval between 1 and 2 vaccinations is reduced (from 2 weeks to 1 month depending on the vaccine). Revaccination is carried out 1 year after the second vaccination, and subsequently every 3 years. Accelerated vaccination schedules are used in both children and adults, but it is better to get vaccinated in advance according to the main schedule. You can visit the forest area no earlier than 2 weeks after the second vaccination,” Rospotrebnadzor said.
Depending on weather conditions, the first tick activity will begin to appear at the end of March or in the first ten days of April. In this season, their numbers in the Krasnoyarsk Territory as a whole are projected at the long-term average level. An increase in the number of taiga ticks is expected in the vicinity of Krasnoyarsk, Sharypov, Lesosibirsk and the Ilan-Nizhneingashsky district, as well as an increase in the number of steppe ticks in the vicinity of Minusinsk. At the same time, the number of taiga ticks in the Achinsk area is expected to remain at last year’s level and a decline in steppe ticks in the vicinity of Kansk.
