The Minister of Health announces that he intends to introduce a provision in the law that would allow the termination of the employment contracts of doctors caught working in private practice during public hospital hours.
“I'm referring to those who leave at 11:00 a.m. from the public hospital, to the private practice and most of the time together with the patient. If we don't stop this phenomenon that costs us many hundreds of millions of lei per year, the health system has no way to improve”, the Minister of Health said on Friday, at an event in Timișoara, according to Agerpres.
He specified that he was “against the concept of the doctor choosing between public and private. It is not normal. The doctor, according to the public program, has the right to do what he wants with his profession.”
“But it's not right,” added the minister, “that during the public program he should be active in the private program.
Alexandru Rogobete also says that a new provision will be introduced in the law that will prohibit the right to free practice of doctors from the public, private medical system, in their spare time, if the doctor in question claims to be sick and unable to work for the state:
“I undertake to cancel the employment contract of the doctor who is caught during working hours in the public, in a different area than in his office in the hospital. We can't be hypocrites and we can't have lumbosciatica only in the public hospital, but then stand for 12 hours in the private office”, says Alexandru Rogobete.
The on-call exemptions will be re-evaluated at the national level, after the event in Constanţa, where 75% of the medical staff had lumbar sciatica and on-call exemption at the public hospital, but all the doctors had operative activity in private, the Minister of Health also says:
“A new measure will be introduced soon: those who are exempted from on-call duty are no longer allowed by law, they lose their right to practice freely (in private – ed.), if they are without medical activity after the program hours in the public system, in order to protect a person who has health problems to recover faster”, concluded the Minister of Health.
