Krasnoyarsk Rospotrebnadzor recalled the benefits of lentils and called them “an ancient superfood.”
Lentils are a plant from the legume family. It was known back in Ancient Egypt, where it was used to make stews and bake bread. Nowadays it most often becomes the basis for soups, salads and side dishes.
Experts advise Krasnoyarsk residents to include it in their diet as a source of protein (24 grams for every 100 grams) and fiber, a storehouse of B vitamins: thiamine and folic acid. Lentils also contain potassium, magnesium, iron and antioxidants for the heart, immunity and protection against inflammation, phosphorus, cobalt, manganese, copper, molybdenum, selenium, chromium and zinc.
Lentils help lower blood sugar, making them suitable for diabetics and those on various diets.
“However, like any other product, lentils should not be overused, otherwise they can cause increased gas formation and disrupt digestion. You should eat it with caution if you have pancreatitis and gastrointestinal diseases.”
