Bill Clinton calls for public hearing
In the latest series of posts on X, Bill Clinton restated his allegations against the oversight committee. “I have called for the full disclosure of the Epstein files. I have sworn to state what I know. And just this week I agreed to appear before the committee in person, but that is still not enough for House Oversight Committee Republicans,” Bill Clinton wrote on the X platform.
“I am not going to stand idly by as they use me as a prop in a closed show trial staged by a Republican Party gripped by fear. If they really care about answers, let's stop this game and do it properly: during a public hearing where Americans will see for themselves what is really going on,” the former president added in one of the entries.
Comer had previously argued that the Clintons would not be treated as a priority, and that the subpoenas from the beginning provided for recorded testimony with the possibility of a later public hearing, which the former US president also referred to in one of his entries.
“Now Chairman Comer says he wants cameras, but only behind closed doors. Who benefits from this arrangement? It's not Epstein's victims who deserve justice. It's not the public who deserves the truth. This only serves partisan interests. This is not fact-finding, this is pure politics,” concluded Bill Clinton.
Previously, the Clintons were close to being charged with contempt of Congress because they initially refused to cooperate. They are now both calling for full disclosure.
What is known about the Clintons in the Epstein documents
So far, the Clintons have not been charged in court with any crimes related to Epstein. They emphasized that they did not have information relevant to the investigation.
As the former president's spokesman previously explained, Clinton met with Epstein several times and took four trips on his plane. However, at that time he had no knowledge of the financier's criminal activities. His representatives claim he severed ties with Epstein in 2006 in leaked documents from the Epstein case no evidence of crime has been detected so far, although there are photos of the former president in the company of Epstein and women.
