Krasnoyarsk veteran of the Northern Military District and Afghanistan told what the soldiers are fighting for

A former paratrooper and intelligence officer from the Krasnoyarsk Territory spoke about his journey and what unites fighters on the front line. Yuri Korotkikh, a participant in the war in Afghanistan and a special operation, shared his story on the social networks of the Union of Northern Military District Veterans.
Yuri was born in Kuzbass, but grew up in Nazarovo. He considers this city his hometown. His character was strengthened by sports – he was a member of the regional ski team and has a rank in boxing. After school, he graduated from SPTU-62 as a tractor driver.
In 1985, he was called up for military service in the Airborne Forces. He served in Afghanistan and was discharged with the rank of sergeant major.
In 2022, he signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense. In the Northern Military District, he carried out combat missions as part of the Army Group “Center”, was the commander of a reconnaissance group, call sign “Fergana”.
“What I remember most is that, regardless of age, the guys came to the Northern Military District consciously, with an understanding of what they were fighting for – for their families and for their Motherland,” the veteran shared.
Having returned to the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Yuri Korotkikh continues to work in his civilian profession – as a driver. He connects his life with loyalty to military brotherhood and principles.
Let us add that for residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory who have entered into a contract, a one-time payment of 2.5 million rubles is provided. Taking into account federal payments, the total amount at the start of the service is 2.9 million rubles.
