Jannik Sinner is also the favorite in his 11th matchup, even if his road to the semi-finals was not without some tough moments. The world number 2 had great emotions in the duel with Eliot Spizzirri (24 years old, 85 ATP) in the third round.
Due to the heat and cramps, Sinner struggled and lost the opening set 6-4. Then the organizers decided to take a break to pull the roof on Rod Laver Arena and after this moment the 24-year-old tennis player recovered and prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
In the quarterfinals, Sinner defeated Ben Shelton (23 years old, 7 ATP) in 3 sets, score 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
On the other side, Novak Djokovic qualified for the semi-finals although in the “eighths” and “quarters” he did not play 3 full sets. First, before the match, Jakub Mensik (20, 17 ATP), the Serbian's 4th round opponent, withdrew due to injury.
Then, in the quarterfinals, although he was leading 2-0 in sets, Lorenzo Musetti (23 years old, 5 ATP) had to abandon the match, suffering an injury to his right leg. Djokovic admitted after the match that he was lucky and was “on his way home”, but is determined to give Sinner a solid reply.
