Two young people, aged 17 and 24, respectively, were saved on Friday night, on Saturday, April 25/26, 2025, from an irrigation channel. The young people were in a car that arrived in the channel, the car being rapidly covered by water. The girls managed to get out of the car and get on the ceiling, but they needed help to reach the shore.
The Oltenian firefighters intervened on the night of April 25/26, 2025 in Strejești, from Olt county, following a call announcing that two victims who were in a car need help. One of the girls was driving the car on an agricultural road, when, in a curve, he lost control of the driving direction, and the car reached an irrigation channel. The channel is fed, the water level being about two meters. The car began to sink, but the girls managed to go out and climb on the car's ceiling, from where they were saved by ISU Olt firefighters.

At the time of the crews, the two girls were on the ceiling of the car, which was completely sunk in water, the ISU representatives said. The girls were taken over by the search team and brought to the shore with the help of the motor boat.
“The patients were monitored by the SMURD crew at the scene, had a light hypothermia and refused transport to the hospital.
The car was extracted from the water with the help of a machine belonging to SVSU Strejești ”, Pure Pureurtor of ISU Olt, Alin Băsășteanu, said.
