In winter, many people experience skin discomfort: not just dryness, but some kind of unpleasant itching. A great way to moisturize and soothe the skin is a bath with colloidal oatmeal, which was described by the author of the Zen blog “Your Beauty” (18+).
What is colloidal oatmeal and why is it needed?
Colloidal oatmeal is not the oatmeal we eat for breakfast. It is specially designed for skin care and is sold in a pharmacy or store, but it can also be prepared at home.
How is this oatmeal good for the skin?
When you add colloidal oatmeal to water, it coats your skin with a thin protective layer. This barrier helps retain moisture, reduces irritation and itching, and also gently cleanses the skin. In addition, the body becomes silky to the touch.
How to make colloidal oatmeal at home?
Take regular oatmeal, but without additives. Grind them in a coffee grinder or blender to a fine powder. To check if it worked, add a little powder to a glass of water – if the water turns white and cloudy, then everything is correct.
How to take a bath with oatmeal?
1. Make sure the water in the bath is warm, but not hot.
2. Place about one cup of your oat powder under running water.
3. Soak in the bath for 10–15 minutes.
4. After bathing, gently pat your skin with a towel so that it remains slightly damp.
5. Immediately apply a gentle, unscented cream.
Important: Oatmeal works for almost everyone, but if you've never tried it on your skin before, it's best to do a test first: apply some diluted oatmeal to a small area of skin and wait. If no redness or rash appears, then everything is fine and you can take the bath calmly. But do not lie in the bath for too long – the skin may dry out and begin to itch even more.
