The budget has been approved, the decision is in the president's hands
On Friday, the Sejm completed work on the budget act for 2026, adopting 10 amendments from the Senate. The document will now go to the president, who has 7 days to decide whether to sign it or refer it to the Constitutional Tribunal. According to the applicable regulations, the president does not have the ability to veto the budget bill.
Marshal of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced that the act would be submitted to the Chancellery of the President on Tuesday. Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański in an interview with Polsat News emphasized that if the budget is sent to the Constitutional Tribunal, the government will act on the basis of the draft budget.
Such a scenario would mean the lack of additional funds for the Internal Security Agency, the Intelligence Agency and for science, which were introduced at the stage of parliamentary work. Also, the planned salary increases in the public sector could not be implemented before the publication of the act.
