The hierarchy in Motorsport is very clearly structured, with formula 1 at the top, followed by Formula 2, Formula 3 and the rest of the championships. Their purpose is to prepare the pilots to advance in the hierarchy, which, in principle, means that the more they go down to the hierarchy, the younger the pilots.
And, although it is not unheard of that some talented pilots, such as Max Verstappen, jump over certain levels and debut early in Formula 1, it is rare that the leader of the general ranking in Formula 1 be younger than the leader in Formula 2.
However, exactly in this situation we are currently, because the leader of Formula 1, Oscar Piastri, is a few months younger than Richard Verschoor, who leads the ranking in Formula 2, according to Sportal.bg.

Previous week offered a rare situation in Motorsport
The two leaders in Formula 1 and Formula 2 took the leadership in their championships last weekend, after winning the Jeddah circuit. Interestingly, both started together in Formula 2 in 2021, the year in which Piastri won the title and advanced in Formula 1, while Verschoor continued to compete in Formula 2, this being his fifth season.
The best classification of the Dutchman in the championship is the 8th place, which he obtained last year. It is important to note that, in his career, Verschoor has a total of 5 victories in Formula 2, but also 3 lost as a result of disqualifications for technical problems. Two of these disqualifications took place in 2024, when he lost the victories in the sprint races in Jeddah and Hungary.
On the other hand, Piastri has awarded the second consecutive and third victory of the season, in the race of the Grand Prize of Saudi Arabia. The pilot from McLaren left the second race, but the 5 -second penalty of Max Verstappen brought an Australian's easy victory.
I'm looking for a couch, it was a very difficult race. Of course, I am very happy that I won, I made the difference at the beginning, I supported my position in the first turn and that was enough.
This is always a demanding race, and this year it was a little later, which made it warmer and wetter. It was definitely the most difficult race in my career, so I'm glad I won it.
– Oscar Piastri, after the victory in the Grand Prize of Saudi Arabia
