I plant once – I dig until October: three varieties of carrots for a lazy bed – they grow even in the shade by the fence

Not all carrots are equally sweet. Some varieties produce a wooden core already in July, others crack after rain, and others grow only in an ideal bed. But there are proven options – unpretentious, even and juicy, which are suitable even for a small area near the fence and will last until winter.

1. Nantes 4

  • Not a hybrid, which means you can collect the seeds and plant them for years.
  • The roots are smooth, cylindrical, 15–18 cm long, with thin skin and rich orange pulp.
  • It grows well in partial shade, does not require loosening every day, and does not crack even with heavy rains.
  • Ideal for juice, baby food and freezing.

2. Vitamin 6

  • Mid-season variety with a high carotene content of up to 18 mg per 100 g.
  • The roots are conical, 20 cm long, bright orange, dense, but not woody.
  • Productivity is up to 6–7 kg per 1 m², even with minimal care.
  • It stays well until February without losing its taste.
Suitable for preparing for the winter: grated with onions and butter, it remains bright and aromatic.

3. Lagoon F1

  • Super-yielding hybrid for lazy beds.
  • Produces even, smooth root crops 18–22 cm long, almost without tops.
  • Resistant to flowering and blight.
  • It ripens smoothly, does not require frequent weeding, and grows even on dense soil.
  • Great for fresh salads and slicing.

These three varieties do not require deep digging, daily watering or perfect sun. Simply plant and harvest juicy, sweet carrots before frost.
