Targeted by the management of Chelsea to replace the manager Enzo Maresca, Liam Rosenior made statements at the end of the match played by his team, Strasbourg, against Nice (1-1).
Before the game against Nice, Liam Rosenior had been rather enigmatic: “Chelsea? There is speculation. But you never know what tomorrow holds.” Afterwards, the coach of Strasbourg “delivered” to the journalists a speech from which it practically appears that he will follow through on the offer to replace Enzo Maresca on the bench of the blues.
Maresca left on the first day of the year, giving up a £14m (€16m) packageand today, against Manchester City, the team will be led by Under 21 coach Calum McFarlane.
Liam Rosenior: “What will be, will be”
But it's pretty clear that this will also be McFarlane's last game on the bench. “Strasbourg is a very beautiful city, with very beautiful people, a great club. I liked everything.
The players were incredible. I really want the best for this club. I don't know if this is my last match. In life, you never know“, said Rosenior after the 1-1 draw with Nice.
Strasbourg – the sister club of Chelsea's BlueCo group – are currently seventh in the league. Rosenior admitted that there are discussions, but claims that for now nothing is certain: “There are only discussions. There is nothing concrete for now. What will be, will be.”
Liam Rosenior: “I loved all the players. And the fans, and everyone here”
He then repeated: “Strasbourg is a fantastic club with fantastic people. I loved everything about it. I adored all the players. And the fans, and everyone here.” More of a parting message, indicating that the decision has been made. Most likely, Rosenior will be introduced to Chelsea after the match with Manchester City, scheduled for Sunday.
Maresca's predecessor left less than five months after adding the Club World Cup trophy to the Conference League triumph. He became the fourth manager under Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali to leave the club, following Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino.
