This day got its name in honor of Saint Anastasia, who was also called Anastasia the Pattern Maker. She lived in Rome in the 3rd century during the persecution of Christians.

On Nastasya's Day in Rus', pregnant women embroidered towels, which were supposed to serve as a talisman during childbirth. Girls also learned to embroider, and their mothers took birth towels from their chests with embroidered signs symbolizing fertility. Embroiderers were called pattern-makers, and embroidery was called pattern-making, which also overlapped with the nickname of Saint Anastasia.

Also on this day it was customary to cook lean porridge. It was fed to pregnant women to protect them from possible diseases. And the whole family glorified their family and their ancestors. Mothers received special honors.

On Nastasya's day we watched the weather. It was believed that if the clouds go against the wind, there will be snow. In general, the weather on that day pointed to the weather in October.
