A cybertsunami is coming. Experts warn of an unprecedented wave of cyberattacks

We are facing an unprecedented scale of online threats; experts predict that 2026 will be critical for IT security – we read in “Rzeczpospolita”. The diary indicates the possibility of geopolitical attacks, for ransom or attacks on the water and sewage network.

“Areas that are particularly exposed to the risk of cyber attack are areas that are key to the functioning of the state, e.g. health care, IT, transport and the financial sector” – said Dariusz Świąder, president of Linux Polska, quoted by Rz.

Specialists interviewed by the daily believe that the water and sewage sector will also be targeted by criminals. “In their opinion, strengthening the resilience of this area is an absolute priority in 2026,” we read in Rz.

Piotr Zielaskiewicz from Dagma IT Security pointed out that the list of industries that are susceptible to attacks does not end with water and sewage projects. “Another important one from the perspective of the quality of everyday life, and requiring special care, is, for example, the heating industry,” Zielaskiewicz pointed out.

According to “Rz”, criminals are also interested in the financial sector and cryptocurrency companies, but banks remain the most tempting target; At the same time, the pressure on telecoms is growing. Moreover, as the daily points out, “cybersecurity specialists warn against serious threats from artificial intelligence.” “The popularization of AI makes consumers vulnerable to the threat of counterfeits, and this trend will continue,” we read in Rz.
