Law enforcement officials do not name the person involved, however, according to sources from Suspilny and RBC-Ukraine, we are talking about Sergei Stetsyuk, an assistant and lawyer of businessman Igor Kolomoisky, who is under arrest. Stetsyuk is also the honorary consul of the Republic of Moldova in Dnipro.
The investigation claims that the defendant threatened businessmen with heavy fines, claiming to have insider information, and used psychological pressure. He allegedly hired an intermediary to receive the money.
“The defendant claimed to businessmen that he supposedly had insider information from regulatory authorities and if entrepreneurs refused to pay him, they would have to pay almost UAH 1 billion in fines to the state budget,” the SBU said in a statement.
The lawyer and his alleged accomplice were informed of suspicion of fraud and complicity in it, committed on an especially large scale under martial law (part 5 of article 190, part 5 of article 27, part 5 of article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Now the issue of choosing a preventive measure is being decided.
The media write that Stetsyuk appears in court cases related to Kolomoisky, in particular, he represents his interests in criminal proceedings on charges of premeditated murder and acts as a representative of the victim in other processes against Kolomoisky.
