Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan declared, on Monday, on Antena 3, that the threats of the opposition regarding a possible suspension of President Nicușor Dan for the statements about the justice system are “one of the bluffs they are making, as they made these motions today and as they made in the past days”. The Prime Minister referred to the simple motions that targeted Ministers Radu Marinescu from Justice and Cătălin Predoiu from Internal Affairs, both rejected in Parliament on Monday.

The prime minister said that he does not believe that a suspension of the president can be reached.

“I don't think that such a point can be reached. It's one of the bluffs they make, as they did today with these motions and as they did the other days too. We need to discuss very openly. For our country, in the situation we find ourselves in, with strong instability at the borders, with problems of significant budget deficits, the stability of state institutions is an important element. For example, the degree of trust in Romania depends on this stability, the country's rating depends, that is, how the interest we pay”, declared the PNL leader.

He gave the example of Italy, which “after 13 years, for the first time, improved its country rating, and the basic element was the stability of the government.”

“Italy, like Romania, has had many governments (…). Stability is a necessary condition, but not a sufficient one. I am not making a pro domo plea, so that you understand me, that someone must remain in a position in the Government or someone else in the Presidency, or someone in a ministry or another. No, it is simply an aspect of normality,” continued Bolojan.

What he said about the judicial situation and the actions of Nicușor Dan

Asked what he thinks is the real and fundamental problem in justice, the prime minister replied: “As in the political world, in the world of justice an important problem is the lack of trust of the citizens. We have to recognize this.”

“Authority, credibility are directly related to trust. If there is good trust, which unfortunately does not exist, a court sentence is credible. If not, it can be challenged. It is the same in a public or administrative decision. And then, fundamentally, we have to see how we improve the activity of these two large systems in such a way that the degree of trust of our citizens increases and we have better services,” he added.

Ilie Bolojan also mentioned the referendum that Nicușor Dan announced that he intends to initiate among the magistrates.

“I saw that Mr. President referred to the idea of a consultation, a referendum, to see what the perception is from the inside. How this consultation or this referendum will be done will be clarified by Mr. President. He, unlike, for example, the Government, as the President of Romania, participates and leads the CSM meetings, so he can discuss all these topics inside the CSM in such a way that it can be seen what the approaches are,” Prime Minister Bolojan explained.
