It is reported that the artist died “peacefully in hospital after a short illness.”

The singer was born in 1951 in the British city of Middlesbrough. Chris Rea has recorded 25 studio albums. His most famous hits are The Road to Hell, On the Beach.

The tender and sentimental Christmas composition Driving Home for Christmas is considered the musician’s calling card. The song was included on the album New Light Through Old Windows (1988).

The singer wrote this track during a difficult period of life in the car, and finished it only a few years later.
