They want to introduce a tourist tax in Novy Urengoy

The administration of Novy Urengoy plans to introduce a tourist tax due to increasing demand for hotels. The measure, according to the authorities, will help replenish the local budget and support economic development, Sever-Press reports.
The tax is planned to be levied on the cost of accommodation in hotels and other accommodation facilities. According to city authorities, “a small tourist tax and a high level of development of the hotel business” will have a positive impact on the municipal economy and entrepreneurs.

However, the introduction of the fee was postponed for a year – from January 1, 2026 to January 1, 2027. Such a deferment, as explained by the administration, is needed for explanatory work with hotel business owners on the provision of benefits for certain categories of guests. The tax rate will remain unchanged: in 2027-2028 it will be 2% of the cost of living, and by 2029 it will gradually increase to 5%.
The authorities have also expanded the list of those who are exempt from tax. Benefits will be provided not only to large families, but also to child athletes, as well as participants in educational and creative events (Olympiads, competitions, festivals) under the age of 18.
