Park scooters only in designated areas. Wola tidies up the parks

The mayor of Wola, Krzysztof Strzałkowski, wants to introduce a ban on riding scooters in Sowiński Park, limit the possibility of leaving them in other parks, and designate places on the streets and yards where they will have to be left.

The Municipal Roads Authority held the first meeting of the mayor of Wola with electric scooter operators regarding restrictions on leaving them in the district, especially in parks, squares and backyards.
Representatives of all three operators operating in Warsaw were at the meeting.
– I am optimistic after this meeting, but we have a few conclusions. Of course, this is the beginning of work, because now we have agreed that there will be a working meeting this year where we will refine it – the mayor of Wola, Krzysztof Strzałkowski, told PAP, adding that he would like to introduce new regulations before the start of the season, i.e. before the warm months.
He noted that the Wola district has found about 80 locations on municipal roads where parking spaces for electric scooters will be marked.
– We will analyze whether there should be more such locations – he explained.
The district wants to use the city system that already operates on county roads, i.e. the ZDM system.
– As for the backyard areas, the district Real Estate Management Board has indicated 600 stands in 200 locations where scooters can be dropped off.
– We will now review them – noted Strzałkowski.
First, such a solution will be introduced in the backyards of Wola, which are already part of the “Resident ID” program.
The third problem is green areas, i.e. parks, including Prince Janusz Park, Moczydło, Szymański Park and Sowiński Park.
– And this is where we will differentiate solutions. Because you need to indicate places that are obviously not suitable for riding scooters due to the surface. or they are, for example, historic parks, such as Sowiński Park – explained Strzałkowski.
In this case, the district is considering, following the example of Łazienki Królewskie, that scooters will not be allowed to enter it.
– This means that not only will you not be able to return your scooter there, but it will also stop before entering the park. Of course, this solution is, as the operators point out, limited, because GPSs are not that accurate and respond with a delay. It may happen that it enters the prohibited zone and stops after a few hundred meters and only then turns it off. But then the person who rented it will have to walk back with it. He will not end the lease and will have to leave the zone – explained Strzałkowski.
In other parks, e.g. Szymański, where bicycle paths are marked, the district wants to exclude the possibility of leaving scooters.
– So you will be able to drive through the park, but you will not be able to end the lease there – emphasized Strzałkowski.
He also noted that he would like to establish cooperation on this issue with the owners of nightclubs and places where mass events take place..
– The meeting took place in a nice atmosphere, because I have the impression that everyone realizes that there is great social pressure. Everyone is aware that the patience of the residents I represent has run out, said the mayor of Wola.
He also noted that operators are aware that they are victims of acts of vandalism.
– It is difficult to hold them responsible for this, but it does not change the fact that it weighs on their image – he explained.
He added that operators themselves are interested in minimizing the costs associated with removing their equipment from bushes or other places not intended for this purpose. (PAP)
