The parliamentary elections in Hungary in 2026 will be “the last elections before the war that is approaching us”, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Saturday, during a rally held in Kecskemet (center), reports MTI, taken over by Agerpres.
“The type of government we will have in 2026 will mean our fate regarding the war. If we have a pro-Brussels government, it will take us to war, but if we have a government interested in the national aspect, then we will have a chance to stay out of the war. The war in Ukraine is not far, neither geographically nor politically,” Orban said.
He added that European leaders had made the decision for Europe to go to war, with the European Union “building a war economy, which is not built for two months.”
According to Viktor Orban, Hungary can only count on itself and if it can't do it well, “we could find ourselves in a situation where everyone is our enemy instead of our friend.” “It is obvious to us that war can only be a bad thing, but those in the West do not think so, they believe that money can be made from it, and money increasingly dominates the position of power in this regard,” said the head of the Hungarian government.
He expressed his hope that in the coming weeks it will be discussed more and more openly about what will happen to the 220-230 billion euros representing frozen Russian assets.
EU leaders have set a deadline by which to reach an agreement on Russian assets / “Belgium's particular vulnerability must be resolved by any imaginable solution”
Orban wanted to note that, with the passage of time, decisions in Western European countries regarding the war “got out of the hands of politicians” and partially ended up in the hands of economic actors.
The Hungarian Prime Minister qualified as “evil” the decision of the European Union not to exempt Hungary from the sanctions against Russia related to the energy sector, after the American President Donald Trump had granted Budapest such an exception from the sanctions imposed by the USA on Moscow.
In his opinion, Brussels considers that the EU sanctions applied to Russia are a commercial policy decision, which does not require unanimity among the member countries.
