Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan told Antena 3 on Wednesday that the package of measures regarding the pensions of the magistrates corrects two of the “three substantive aspects to be solved” in the system, namely the problem of “very fast” retirement and the pension level.
The prime minister said that the “very fast” retirement of the magistrates is “an injustice” that the package of measures comes to correct.
“No justice system in Europe allows the magistrates to retire at 48, as our system allows, after 25 years of age (…). Practically, this project extends the retirement age to 65 years, which is a correct thing to the other categories,” said Ilie Bolojan.
He stated that the project also provides for “establishing a pension that is reasonable” and “not exceeding 70% of the last salary”.
“Until now, it was an abnormality, namely the pension in the judiciary was as the last salary, which happens nowhere, nor in similar legal systems, such as the European ones, but neither in the normal pension systems (…).
Thus, the average pension in the judiciary, about which the prime minister claims that he is currently at a level of “4,800 – 5,000 euros”, will reach “about 3,500 euros”.
The prime minister wants “simple, clear and predictable” pay laws ”
The other background aspect that must be corrected in the judiciary is, according to the prime minister, the need for a clear pay law, “which will no longer allow the triggering processes in cascade for salary increases”.
“Think about that in these years we had over 23,000 processes generated by magistrates, which, of course, were won, most of them, and which made the Romanian state pay, at least, two billion euros only salary-and we have to pay about more. We come with pay laws that are simple, clear and predictable, including in the justice system, to avoid these actions, ”said Ilie Bolojan.
