The first week of December before St. Nicholas Day ends with an interesting set of charts with many records. Here is a list of seven selected by the editors and best illustrating what was happening this week.

Silver prices in dollars on Monday set a new nominal all-time record, heading towards USD 60 per ounce. Since the beginning of 2025, the silver price has almost doubled, surpassing the achievements of gold. Calculated in Polish currency, the white metal is valued for the first time at over PLN 200.

The Monetary Policy Council did not surprise economists and, as expected, reduced the NBP interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point. This was the fifth decision of this type in a row, bringing benefits to debtors and at the same time leading to a reduction in interest rates on deposits and bonds.

After the spring slump, the economic situation in the Polish manufacturing sector is deteriorating more and more slowly – according to the November PMI reading. However, there is still a long way to go before the Polish industry enters the recovery phase.

November brought a slight increase in HICP inflation in the euro area, according to Eurostat's flash estimate. Although the price growth rate of the consumer goods basket was anchored at around 2%, it slightly exceeded the European Central Bank's target for the third month in a row.

KGHM's great streak on the Warsaw Stock Exchange continues. Following the record prices of copper and silver mined by the mining giant, the company's share price was, on Friday, December 5, the highest in history. The company's valuation amounted to PLN 47 billion, which means that in three months its value increased by a staggering PLN 20 billion.

In recent days, social media have been buzzing with comparisons between Dino and Carrefour, in which the Polish supermarket chain was worth more than the French retail giant. However, the situation on the stock exchange is changing dynamically and Carrefour is now valued higher. The net profit of the banking sector in the period January-October 2025 amounted to PLN 40.28 billion, i.e. increased by 14.4%. y/y – informed the National Bank of Poland. In October alone, the profit amounted to PLN 4.2 billion.
