The Kansk City Court ordered the local interdistrict hospital to pay 2 million rubles to the parents of a patient who died from complications of phlegmon. The young man died in January 2024 after treatment for inflammation, which developed as a complication of caries.

The patient was admitted to surgery with acute submandibular phlegmon. He underwent two operations, but his condition worsened. Nine days after hospitalization, he died in intensive care. The parents learned about the death from funeral service employees.

The initial departmental examination did not find the doctors directly at fault. The official cause of death was listed as infectious-toxic shock and thromboembolism due to the spread of an abscess to the neck area.

However, at the request of the family, the court ordered an independent examination, which revealed serious violations. Experts found that the doctors did not collect a full medical history, did not take the necessary x-rays of the jaws, did not involve a specialized surgeon, and did not monitor blood tests over time. These errors did not allow developing sepsis to be diagnosed in time.

The court recognized that the patient's death was caused by deficiencies in medical care, and ordered one million rubles from the Kansk Interdistrict Hospital to each of the parents as compensation for moral damage.
