Cristi Chivu reacted after “Cholo” Simeone confessed that he would like to coach Inter: “I don't feel inferior”

“I see myself coaching at Inter one day, along the way,” said “Cholo” Simeone in the press conference preceding the match with Cristi Chivu's team.

Later, the Romanian technician reacted to the Argentine's statements: “I have always admired him, both professionally and in terms of character. I saw him recently in the friendly in Libya and I was happy to hear his flattering words about me.

As for me, I have some experience in football and I would like to have a career like his. But I feel neither inferior nor superior to him“, said Cristi Chivu, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Former Argentine international with 108 caps for the national team, Diego Simeone played at Inter Milan between 1997-1999.

A central midfielder by trade, 'Cholo' started his career at Velez Sarsfield and his first step into Europe was at Pisa in 1990. Two seasons at Sevilla followed, and then came the transfer to Atletico Madrid in 1994, where he stayed until 1997, when he joined Inter.

In 1999, the Argentine arrived at Lazio, and in 2003 he returned to Atletico, for which he played for two more seasons. He finished his playing career in his native country, at Racing Club, a team where he also started his coaching career.

After spells at Estudiantes, River Plate, San Lorenzo, Catania and a new spell at Racing Club, Diego Simeone took over at Atletico Madrid in 2011, with whom he won La Liga twice and the Europa League twice.

During this time, Atletico also reached the Champions League final twice, in 2014 and 2016, both losing to rivals Real Madrid.
