Russia wants to prolong the war not only against Ukraine, but also against other countries. This is where the difficulties surrounding the peace plan come from, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's statement on Sunday.

“The difficulty of the entire diplomatic situation is that this war was started by Russia – and only Russia, and throughout the duration of the full-scale war, it is Russia and only Russia that does not want to end it. From the first minutes of February 24 (2022, Russian leader Vladimir), Putin has been conducting this war in such a way that he does not care how many of his people he loses or how many of our people he kills,” Zelensky wrote on social media.
According to the Ukrainian president, Russian commanders have orders “that they can kill as they please.”
“Now Russian commanders are launching attacks against Ukrainian positions against those who were still in the younger (first) grades of school in 2014 – when Crimea was occupied and the hybrid aggression against Ukraine began. This is a long war, and the most important thing that Russia is trying to do is to preserve the ability to continue it for even longer, and not only against Ukraine. That is why we value so much that so many forces and leaders are now working for peace,” Zelensky emphasized.
According to the Ukrainian president, the main task is to stop Russian aggression. “And for this to happen, peace must be dignified. This year alone, Putin has already sent hundreds of thousands of his people to death to occupy one or a few percent of Ukrainian territory. And this is being done by Russia, which already has the largest internationally recognized territory in the world,” he wrote.
In the opinion of the head of the Ukrainian state Russia is not interested in territories, but in the right to subjugate “others”.
“That is why we are working so carefully on every point, on every step leading to peace. Everything must work properly – to truly end this war and prevent its return. Thank you to everyone who helps! Thank you, America! Thank you, Europe! I am proud of our people. Glory to Ukraine!” – concluded the Ukrainian president.
