Earthquake in the Vrancea seismic zone. What a magnitude it had

An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.9 occurred on Sunday, at 11:36 local time, in the Vrancea seismic zone, Vrancea county, announced the National Research and Development Institute for Earth Physics (INCDFP).

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 147.3 km and was felt near the cities of Focșani (52 km west), Sfântu-Gheorghe (60 km east), Buzău (64 km northwest), Brașov (70 km east) and Ploiesti (89 km northeast).

In November 2025, 12 earthquakes with magnitudes between 2 and 3.5 degrees were recorded in Romania. The strongest earthquakes this year, both with a magnitude of 4.4, occurred on February 13, in Buzău county, and on May 11, in Vrancea county. In 2024, the most important earthquake had a magnitude of 5.4 and occurred in Buzau County on September 16.
