💔 Today is the 84th anniversary of the Babyny Yar tragedy. Day of Remembrance of Mass Victims shootings carried out by the Nazis during the Second World War.

▪️In September 1941, after the occupation of Kyiv by the Nazis, mass deportation and extermination of the Jewish population began;
▪️At first, the victims were taken outside the city, and later decided to carry out executions directly in Babyny Yar (this is a tract in the north-west of Kyiv);
▪️The most massive executions took place on September 29-30, 1941. At that time, 34,000 Jews, residents of Kyiv, were killed;
▪️During the occupation of Kyiv (1941-1943), according to various sources, the Nazis shot from 70 to 200 thousand people;
▪️Among the victims were women, children and babies, the elderly and those who tried to protect them. Kill also Ukrainians, Roma and representatives of other nationalities;
▪️After the war, Babyn Yar remained forgotten for a long time. It was only in the 1960s that attempts were made to honor the memory of the dead. In 1976, a monument was erected there;
▪️Real recognition of this tragedy began only in the 1990swhen Ukraine gained independence.

The Nazis killed tens of thousands of innocent people, destroyed their lives… Today, horrors are being repeated – already by the hands of the Russians.
