Protest, Friday, in Victoriei Square: “We want equal rights, no special pensions!”

The Declic community, together with “Corruption Kills” and “Romania Initiative”, is organizing, on Friday, from 18:00, in Piața Victoriei, a protest under the slogan “We want equal rights, without special pensions!”. Similar actions will be held in other cities in the country.

“We are going to the streets, Friday, November 21, 2025, in Victoriei Square, from 18:00. Come with us, let's demand a real reform of special pensions. The government and the president are asking the magistrates to accept pensions of 70% of the last salary and a reform extended over 10-15 years. But the voice of the citizens is not heard. So we go to shout We want equal rights, no special pensions! While we tighten our belts and endure anti-crisis measures, the Government proposes a weak reform of magistrates' pensions. Even if the reform passes, magistrates' pensions will remain the highest in the EU“, it says on the Facebook page of the event.
The organizers announce:
“We want pensions based on the contributory principle, without exceptions. Come on Friday, from 18:00, to Piața Victoriei. Take your friends, colleagues and relatives with you. If we don't come out now, we will never have a real reform of special pensions.”
“The executive is patient with the magistrates, while ordinary pensioners found out from one month to the next that they are missing 10% of their pensions”
Protests will also be organized by local initiatives in Timișoara, Iași, Pitesti and Arad, according to a press release sent to Agerpres.
The main request is a real reform of special pensions, by applying the principle of contribution for all pensions in Romania, according to
“The double standard of the politicians hurts more than the budget hole. The government and the president are asking the magistrates to accept pensions 'only' 15 times higher than the average pension in Romania, while ordinary people had to bear the 'anti-crisis' measures immediately. The executive is patient with the magistrates to whom they grant a transition of 10 – 15 years until the implementation of the law, over time, ordinary pensioners found out from one month to the next that they are missing 10% of their pensions. This is not reform, it is the protection of privileges”said Cătălina Hopârteanu, the coordinator of the Declic campaign for the launch of a referendum for the elimination of special pensions, according to the release.
“Equity cannot exist in a state where only one class reserves privileges for life”
According to the initiators of the protest, while the privileges remain protected, the rest of the citizens have to endure the anti-crisis measures: tax increases, income cuts for ordinary pensioners, additional taxation for mothers on parental leave and reduced scholarships for students.
One of the solutions proposed by the citizens is the introduction of a simple and fair principle: everyone receives according to what they have contributed, said the quoted source.
“We are taking to the streets because equity cannot exist in a state where only one category reserves privileges for life, paid for by all others. We demand a pension system for magistrates built on responsibility and balance, not on exceptions that break the trust between society and justice,” said Diana Voicu from the Romania Initiative.
