UEFA made an exception and agreed for Barcelona to play their next Champions League home match at the Camp Nou stadium.

After two and a half years of wandering, Barcelona is preparing for the return to the Camp Nou. The updated version of the stadium, renovated, modernized and partially reopened, will host the championship match between Barcelona and Athletic Club, scheduled for November 22.

If the new Camp Nou received the green light for the domestic competition, Barcelona made a similar move to UEFA, with the hope that it will be able to play the next European match there at home. It is about a duel with Eintracht Frankfurt, on December 9.

UEFA made an exception for Barcelona and gave the “green light” despite the regulations

Normally, such a thing would not have been possible, because changing the stadium in full competition is against UEFA regulations.

In paragraph 8 of Article 25, the UEFA regulations state that “starting from the league stage, a club must in principle play all its home games at the same stadium“.

However, the European forum made an exception, based on the good relationship with the Blaugrana club. Barcelona argued that they were not looking to move to a bigger stadium than the one they have played in so far, Montjuic, but just to return home.

In exchange, writes Mundo Deportivo, UEFA requested assurances that Barcelona will offer guests a number of seats equivalent to 5% of the stadium's total capacity. Over, commissioners of the European forum will come to inspect on November 29, when Barcelona host Deportivo Alaves in the championship.

For the moment, Camp Nou can accommodate up to 45,401 spectators. In parallel, the works on the stadium continue.
