The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering granting political asylum to Britons persecuted for their views, including participants of protests in front of abortion clinics, the Telegraph daily reported, citing White House officials.

The source cited by the newspaper described the plan as “serious”. The Telegraph revealed on Sunday that granting political refugee status would include, among others: activists contesting issues of biological and cultural gender, people criticizing pro-immigration policy and opposing abortion.
“This intervention is another signal of President Trump's readiness to interfere in Britain's internal affairs in the face of growing transatlantic concerns about the protection of freedom of speech,” the editorial said.
It was recalled that in January, after taking office, Trump stopped admitting almost all refugees to the US, but set a precedent in matters of political asylum by granting refugee status to Afrikaners who claimed that they experienced racial discrimination in South Africa.
In October, information appeared that the American leader may offer political asylum to Europeans opposed to immigration and to people persecuted for expressing support for populist political parties.
