Russian armed forces on Monday attacked the Turkish tanker Orinda carrying a cargo of liquefied natural gas, which was moored in the Ukrainian port of Izmail near Odessa, Turkish media reported.

The ship, which was carrying about 4,000 tons of liquefied natural gas, caught fire during the attack, prompting authorities to evacuate surrounding areas as a precaution.
The Turkish Directorate General of Maritime Affairs confirmed that all 16 crew members, who are Turkish nationals, were evacuated and moved to a safe location. No injuries were reported.
Ukrainian fire crews arrived at the scene and officials said a full damage assessment would be conducted once the fire was fully contained. Turkish authorities said they were monitoring the situation closely and were in contact with their Ukrainian counterparts.
After the attack, the Romanian village of Plauru, located on the other bank of the Danube opposite Izmail, was evacuated as a precaution. According to the Romanian website Digi24, between 100 and 150 people were evacuated. (PAP)
