How educated on mental health do you think our society is?
Why are some people attracted to authoritarian leaders with intolerant or even violent speech?
What is the profile of Romanian society in relation to extremism?
In this courageous book, the author describes a harsh context for what we generally believe about mental health, on an individual and societal level. But those who can bear the weight of this rigorous and exhaustive review will receive the gift of hope: there are fabric-relationships, restorative touches, luminous accidents. And you can be one of them. All of us as a society can be.
Psychotherapist Cătălina Dumitrescu is not an optimist, but she opens a new “window of freedom” to all her readers.
We are all different. We have different genetic baggage, other formative experiences, other family, economic and educational contexts. We are not free to become whatever we set our minds to, psychologically speaking – but we are free to do what we can with ourselves within these defining brackets. And sometimes something happens. A blue butterfly, a luminous accident, a healing statistical aberration, resetting the trajectory of a life.
“The price of freedom it is a tool of social diagnosis, an erudite compendium of neuro-psycho-sociology and a manifesto for action. I am convinced that it will drive away the fatigue and existential inertia of our times,” he says psychiatrist Vlad Stroescu, who also wrote the foreword of the book.
