The dental clinic in Bucharest where a 2-year-old girl died reacts to the accusations of the Minister of Health that it did not have authorizations for deep sedation procedures

The representatives of Crystal Dental Clinic claim that for the new premises of the clinic where deep sedation interventions were performed, “approval and authorization procedures are underway, according to the legal stages provided”, and “these steps were known and monitored by the competent institutions”. They reacted after the Minister of Health said that the two-year-old girl died in a new location of the clinic, which did not have approvals and authorizations for such procedures.
Crystal Dental Clinic says, in a press release sent on Saturday, that the deep sedation interventions carried out by the clinic in recent years were carried out in a unit that operated under the necessary authorizations and approvals issued by the competent institutions.
“Also, in the process of expanding the activity, the clinic has invested in new medical spaces and modern sedation equipment, and the approval and authorization procedures for these spaces are ongoing, according to the legal stages provided. These steps were known and monitored by the competent institutions, in accordance with the applicable legislation”, the representatives of the clinic said.
They say that “incomplete or distorted information has circulated in the public space, which can create confusion at an emotionally charged moment” and that “any assessment must be made exclusively on the basis of official documents, not through speculation or unverified claims.”
“Crystal Dental Clinic has been in business for over 20 years, a team of over 100 professionals and tens of thousands of patients who know our standards. We remain committed to transparency, institutional cooperation and supporting all procedures necessary to fully clarify the facts.
We are with the family during this extremely difficult time and we avoid any statement that could accentuate the pain or influence the ongoing investigation”, added representatives of Crystal Dental Clinic.
The clinic was not licensed for deep sedationsays the Minister of Health
The two-year-old girl who died on Thursday, after being given deep sedation, was treated in a second branch of the clinic, opposite the main building, which does not “respect the regulations and the legislation in force”, declared, on Friday, the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, specifying that these are preliminary data following the control launched at the clinic by the State Sanitary Inspection.
Alexandru Rogobete said that, although he does not have a final report, “from what I know from my team on the spot, there are spaces that do not comply with the regulations and legislation in force regarding the operation of an office that provides intravenous anesthesia, that does general anesthesia outside the hospital”:
“Things, again, are not very good, in the sense that authorizations are not issued properly. Of course, I do not have a final report yet, but from what I know from my team that is on site, there are premises that do not comply with the regulations and legislation in force regarding the operation of an office where intravenous anesthesia is provided, please, general anesthesia outside the hospital.
I'm coming back or we're back to the same problem that we had and that we said a few weeks ago in the press conference – we have illegally issued notices, private clinics that operate outside the law, protocols that are not respected and at the end of the day people die.”
What parents say
The parents of the two-year-old girl accuse that they were not notified immediately about the tragedy.
“So she got in at 5:06 p.m., and at 5:30 p.m. she got into a traffic jam. They informed me after an hour that she got into a traffic jam and after half an hour the ambulance came. They were afraid and it's normal, I understand, they tried to resuscitate her. Maybe if the ambulance had come, maybe if… I don't know…” said the girl's mother, according to Observer News.
And the child's father claims the same. “The child went into cardio-respiratory arrest, and we were notified only after an hour or so,” he said in a discussion with journalists.
The man also told that there were a series of exchanges of messages with the anesthesiologist, who assured the parents that the intervention could be done, although the values of some analyzes came out increased.
“The little girl's tests came out last night, at 9:00-10:00 p.m., and the liver tests were six times higher than the limit. Today the wife called to come another day, she also sent messages on WhatsApp… she told him that it's okay, that she can come, that it doesn't affect those tests, those higher values,” said the girl's father, Thursday evening.
“The wife came today with the little girl. After 20 minutes after they sedated or anesthetized her, the child went into cardio-respiratory arrest,” said the little girl's father, who also accuses that the call to 112 was made with great delay.
The clinic says the girl went through a similar procedure in January with the same team
The representatives of the dental clinic say, in a press release, that the girl went through a similar procedure, with deep sedation, on January 27, 2025, performed in the same clinic by the same medical team, anesthetist and dentist, a procedure that ended “without complications and with a full recovery”.
Cinica emphasized, in a statement sent on Friday, that over 1,700 procedures involving sedation were carried out over 11 years by the same anesthesiologist under whose care the 2-year-old child was and he recorded no incidents.
The girl had a “complex chronic pathology”, the autopsy shows
The two-year-old child who died Thursday evening in a dental clinic in Bucharest, where she was given total sedation, had a “complex pre-existing chronic pathology”, according to the preliminary conclusions of the autopsy, sent by the Prosecutor's Office of the Bucharest Court.
“According to the preliminary conclusions issued following the medico-legal autopsy by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine “Mina Minovici”, the minor's death occurred during a dental intervention on a patient with a complex pre-existing chronic pathology”, say the representatives of the Prosecutor's Office of the Bucharest Court, in a press release sent on Friday.
