Foreign teams will take part in the “Magic Ice of Siberia” competition in Krasnoyarsk

Preparations for the open festival-competition “Magic Ice of Siberia” continue in Krasnoyarsk. The mayor's office reminded that it will be held for the 10th anniversary.

This year the participants will be teams of masters from China, Belarus and Mongolia. For the first time, sculptors from South Korea will compete for the title of best. Foreign teams did not take part in the competition for several years.

A commission headed by festival organizer Alexander Zaitsev has already reviewed the draft compositions. About 80 applications were studied. 25 of them were presented by students of art universities and colleges in Russia. The 10 best were selected from them. For the first time, teams from Khabarovsk, Tyva and Kostroma will participate in this stage.

​There will be 30 professional works: 10 snow and 20 in the “Ice” category, which, in turn, will be divided into “Realism” and “Abstraction”.

“The division within artistic directions was added for the first time. This is due to the anniversaries of Krasnoyarsk artists: the painter Valeryan Sergin, who will celebrate his 90th birthday next year, and Andrei Pozdeev – he would have turned 100 years old,” the press service explained.

The anniversary festival will take place at several venues. Snow masterpieces will be placed on Teatralnaya Square for the first time. Everyone who comes to admire the unique works will have the opportunity to examine the figures in volume – from different angles. Ice compositions will be placed on the lower and upper tiers of the Central Embankment. The professional competition will take place from January 12 to 17.

The organizer of the competition, 11-time winner of international ice sculpture competitions Alexander Zaitsev, noted that the jury assessed the originality, artistic value, existence of the sculpture in urban space and practical implementation, including the durability and attractiveness of the figures.

The mayor’s office added that among the participants there will be the teams “Kestik” from Tyva and “Muusuus Ice” from Yakutia, both already familiar to Krasnoyarsk residents. They didn't miss a single competition. Traditionally, craftsmen from different parts of our country will take part. The ArchPro team from Krasnoyarsk, together with masters from St. Petersburg, will perform in the “Snow” category. The guys have grown from a youth competition to professionals and for the second year they are participating along with masters from other countries.

Let us remind you that the festival will be held from January 6 to 17. This year the teams will create compositions on a free theme.

In addition, family, children's and youth competitions will be held. Families and children will create works on January 7th. The children's competition will be held for the first time after a long break. Little Krasnoyarsk residents aged 10 to 16 years will create their own compositions.
