“If you didn’t serve, you’re not a man”: SVO participant stabbed to death a drinking buddy who refused help in concluding a contract in Moscow
A group of men were relaxing in a bar when they were joined by 32-year-old Northern Military District veteran Denis Kalmanov, who was drinking nearby. He talked about serving at the front and invited one of the company members, Ruslan Makushev, who mentioned that he would like to serve in the Wagner PMC, to go to the Northern Military District. He hinted that he could help negotiate a contract.
Makushev refused help and said that he could do it himself. After some time, Kalmanov waylaid him on the street and, with the words “If you didn’t serve, you’re not a man,” he tried to challenge him to a fight. The fighters were separated, the opponents shook hands, but after that Kalmanov took out a knife and dealt Makushev 6 blows.
At the trial, he admitted to what he had done, but stated that he had been provoked to commit murder, and that the murdered man had insulted him. The court sentenced Kalmanov to 8 years in a maximum security colony.
