Donald Trump received Viktor Orban at the White House. “Great Leader”

Trump greeted the Hungarian leader at the entrance to the West Wing of the White House, calling him a “great leader.” Asked if he still intended to meet with Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Trump replied that “there is always a possibility to visit Budapest.” Neither Trump nor Orban responded to the question about importing Russian oil.

Orbán's welcome took place without the assistance of the standard-bearing post that usually accompanies visits of foreign leaders.

Viktor Orban arrived at the White House. This is his first visit in six years

For Orban, this is the first visit to the White House since 2019 after being isolated during Joe Biden's administration. As announced by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Peter Szijjarto, an agreement on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy will be signed during the visit. According to the US Department of State, this is an agreement to start negotiations on cooperation in this area. As a representative of the Hungarian delegation told PAP, the agreement will concern the purchase of uranium from the USA through Westinghouse.

In addition to Szijjarto, the Hungarian delegation also includes ministers including: construction, transport and economy.

The Hungarians also hope to obtain an exemption from American sanctions imposed on the Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil, which also affects Hungarian entities. President Trump said last week that although Orban had requested such an exemption, he had not yet received it.
