Mircea Lucescu (80 years old), the Romanian national team coach, announced the squad for the matches against Bosnia and San Marino, the last of the qualification campaign for the World Championship.

Romania still has two matches to play in Group H qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The one with Bosnia promises to be a hot one, given that the two are in a direct battle for second place in the group, which would, in theory, bring easier opponents to the play-off in the spring.

Romania and Bosnia will face each other in Zenica on November 15. On the 18th, the “tricolors” will receive the visit of the San Marino national team.

Mircea Lucescu's squad for the matches with Bosnia and San Marino

Mircea Lucescu summoned 26 footballers. Captain Nicolae Stanciu is not on the list. He was injured and did not play in Genoa's last 5 games.

The FCSB champion gives 5 footballers: Târnovanu, Tănase, Olaru, Miculescu and Bîrligea. Marian Aioani took the place of Răzvan Sava, and Claudiu Petrila replaced Alexandru Dobre.

Ștefan Baiaram, who has not had the best developments lately, was called up. Dinamo does not give any footballers.

  • Goalkeepers: Ionuț RADU (Celta de Vigo | Spain, 6/0), Ștefan TâRNOVANU (FCSB, 3/0), Marian AIOANI (FC Rapid 1923, 0/0);

  • defense: Andrei RAțIU (Rayo Vallecano | Spain, 34/1), Deian SORESCU (Gaziantep FK | Turkey, 23/0), Virgil GHIȚĂ (Hannover 96 | Germany, 6/1), Bogdan RACOVIȚAN (Raków | Poland, 4/0), Adrian RUS (Universitatea Craiova, 22/1), Lisav EISSAT (Maccabi Haifa | Israel, 1/0), Nicușor BANCU (Universitatea Craiova, 49/2), Alexandru CHIPCIU (Cluj University, 48/6)

  • midfielders: Marius MARIN (Pisa | Italy, 34/0), Vladimir SCRECIU (Universitatea Craiova, 5/0), Răzvan MARIN (AEK Athens | Greece, 70/12), Vlad DRAGOMIR (Paphos | Cyprus, 3/0), Ianis HAGI (Alanyaspor | Turkey, 49/7), Florin TĂNASE (FCSB, 24/5), Darius OLARU (FCSB, 26/0), Dennis MAN (PSV | Netherlands, 41/10), David MICULESCU (FCSB, 5/0), Valentin MIHĂILĂ (Caykur Rizespor | Turkey, 32/5), Ștefan BAIARAM (Universitatea Craiova, 1/0), Claudiu PETRILA (FC Rapid 1923, 1/0);

  • Strikers: Denis DRĂGUȘ (Eyüpspor | Turkey, 26/7), Daniel BÎRLIGEA (FCSB, 5/1), Louis MUNTEANU (CFR Cluj, 3/1).

The “Tricolori” still have a mathematical chance for first place, but second place seems much more realistic. Romania is 3rd, with 10 points, 5 behind the leader Austria. Bosnia is on 2, with 13 points.

In the event that Romania does not finish in 2nd place, it is guaranteed its presence in the play-offs due to its progress in the League of Nations.
