They said that on November 6, at the Adazi military base in Latvia, 21 armored personnel carriers equipped with 12.7 mm NATO support machine guns and ammunition would be handed over to Ukrainian Defense Minister Denis Shmygal.
In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive spare parts, special repair tools and equipment necessary for servicing armored personnel carriers, as well as a container-type mobile repair shop and maintenance documentation, the Latvian Defense Ministry informed.
Repair kits will also be supplied to repair combat damage to the armored personnel carrier.
“The donation of Latvian-made armored personnel carriers is a significant support for the defenders of Ukraine and an opportunity to test the strength and capabilities of Latvian armored vehicles in real combat conditions,” said the head of the Latvian Ministry of Defense Andris Spruds.
Context
Latvia has been consistently providing assistance to Ukraine, including military assistance, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation. In particular, Latvia, together with the UK, coordinates the “coalition of drones”, which was created by Ukraine’s allies in February 2024. Latvia, among other things, transferred drones of its own production to Ukraine.
The Latvian Cabinet of Ministers supported the supply of 42 Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers and other military equipment to the Ukrainian Armed Forces to combat Russian aggression, the country’s Ministry of Defense reported. The department noted that Shmygal will receive the last batch of armored personnel carriers on November 6.
In 2025, Latvian military assistance to Ukraine will reach 0.3% of GDP, the Ministry of Defense emphasized. They added that in addition to military support, Latvia is also implementing a training program for the Ukrainian military.
