A dead American serviceman was found in a Lithuanian swamp on the border with Belarus. He and his three colleagues drowned in an armored car during a training exercise.
On March 25, four American soldiers of the 1st Brigade of the 3rd Infantry Division disappeared at the Pabrade training ground during a mission to repair and evacuate an M88A2 Hercules armored repair and recovery vehicle (last photo). The comrades drove into a swampy area, got stuck, and the car went under water. The armored car was found on the 27th. The crew arrived only three days later.
The last member of the squad was searched in the area of the training ground on a military helicopter, with drones, construction equipment and in the company of two service dogs of the Estonian military police.
The chairman of the foundation for the restoration and protection of swamps, Nerijus Zableckis, said that the swamp in which the armored vehicle sank is not on the map.
