The pair took over the dogs after the Queen's death, housing them at the Royal Lodge. After the couple moved from their Windsor residence, there was speculation about the future of the animals, but the Palace said in a statement that “corgis will stay in the family”, according to Independent.co.uk.
However, it was not specified whether they will be looked after by Andrew, Sarah or their daughters, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice.
In a speech in London, Sarah Ferguson confessed that she sometimes feels the Queen's presence through the behavior of her dogs. “Every morning she comes and barks, and I'm convinced it's her, that she's talking to me, that she's reminding me that she's still around.”said the Duchess of York.
She also told, in 2023, that one of the corgis, Muick, was deeply affected by the queen's death, needing almost a year to adjust.
Queen Elizabeth II had more than 30 corgis throughout her life, many of them descendants of the puppy Susan, received as a gift from her parents on her 18th birthday in 1944. The bond between the queen and the puppy Susan was so strong that the dog even accompanied her on her honeymoon.
