Edi Iordănescu (47 years old) is no longer the coach of the Poles from Legia Warsaw. The announcement was made by the club.
After the last defeat, 1-2 with Pogon in the Cup, the Romanian coach announced that he will have a meeting with the club management. Which he had after a few hours, in the middle of the night.
UPDATE. 12:20: Legia Warsaw announced the separation from Edward Iordănescu
The decision was made, and the two parties reached an agreement on the separation. In a post on social media, the Poles announced the departure of the Romanian coach.
“Edward Iordănescu has stopped performing his duties as Legia's coach. The club thanks the coach for his cooperation and wishes him success in his future venture.
Until a new technician is appointed, the duties of the first coach will be performed by the assistant Inaki Astiz”, announced the Poles.
He led the Poles in 23 matches, during which he recorded 11 wins, 6 draws and 6 defeats. It leaves Legia in 10th place in the championship, with only 16 points accumulated in the first 12 stages.
He started the European preliminaries in the Europa League, but only managed to qualify for the main table in the Conference. There, Legia is 18th after the first two matches, with 3 points.
Legia was the 10th team in Edi's senior career. He also coached FCSB, CFR, Gaz Metan, Astra, CSKA Sofia, Pandurii, FCM Târgu Mureș, Fortuna Bălți and was Romania's coach between January 2022 and July 2024.
The Federation's main option for replacing Mircea Lucescu
According to GSP information, Edi Iordănescu would be the main option of the Romanian Football Federation regarding the replacement of Mircea Lucescu.
In case Romania does not qualify directly for the 2026 World Championship, Mircea Lucescu would leave the National Team.

“As always, I take full responsibility. I've already asked for a meeting with the management. If certain things don't change, we will continue to suffer and I don't want that. We have great supporters who deserve more, better results.
I don't want to be the person who destroys their hopes. I think that, in the next few hours, it will be important to sit down with the management and discuss certain things again,” he said.
After the 90 minutes of regular time, the score was 1-1, and the match went into overtime. Although the game looked like it was going to a penalty shootout, the visitors struck and scored the qualifying goal in the 117th minute.
Difficult period for Legia Warsaw
Besides the elimination from the Cup, things are not better for the team trained by Edi Iordănescu in the championship either.
Legia is in 10th place, with 16 points obtained in 12 matches.
