Taimyr reindeer herders were given a year's supply of kerosene

31 October 14:30

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, 670 families of reindeer herders and fishermen of the Taimyr Dolgano-Nenets Municipal District received a year's supply of kerosene to light their nomadic homes – beams and tents, as well as to generate electricity.

Such state support is provided to northerners upon application within the framework of the regional program “Preservation and Development of the Traditional Way of Life and Economic Activities of Indigenous Minorities.” One family is entitled to receive 200 kilograms of kerosene per year.

“Starting next year, it is planned to expand measures to support nomadic families. People will be able to choose which energy source is more convenient for them to use – traditional kerosene or modern alternatives: solar and wind installations or LED lamps,” said Anton Narchuganov, head of the agency for the development of northern territories and support of indigenous peoples of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

Let us remind you that earlier the main holiday of the indigenous peoples of the North was held in Taimyr. The most spectacular part of the event was the reindeer sled race, in which more than 300 participants took part, competing for the title of the fastest musher in men's, women's and youth races. Indigenous people also took part in northern competitions: jumping over sleds, pulling sticks and throwing a maut on a trochee (a lasso is thrown onto a long pole used to drive deer).

A national clothing competition was held at the ethnic site, and women presented northern cuisine from fish and deer meat, as well as arts and crafts. The holiday ended with a big concert with the participation of local creative groups.
