Latvia: Poland will increase the military contingent

On Thursday, the head of the Ministry of National Defense visited the Polish military contingent in Adazi, Latvia. During the conference with the Latvian Minister of Defense Andris Spruds, Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that the Polish military contingent in Latvia would be increased. As he said, in June the contingent will be strengthened by a specialist unit of chemical forces.

He calculated that the contingent currently has about 190 people. “There will be 40 soldiers related to chemical forces, and the entire military contingent in Latvia will reach 300 soldiers” – said the head of the Ministry of National Defense.

He also pointed out that the Latvian parliament supported the termination of the Treaty of Ottawa on Wednesday, prohibiting, among others use and production of anti -personnel mines. He added that the Polish parliament will soon deal with the termination of the Ottawa Convention. “Together with the Baltic States, but also recently joined Finland, so the entire eastern flank of NATO north of Poland makes this decision,” said Kosiniak-Kamysz.
