The match in stage #1 of the Romanian Cup groups, between Csikszereda Miercurea Ciuc and Sepsi OSK, ended with a “white” draw, score 0-0. The Hungarian press took note of this game, called the “Cup of the Szeklerland”.
For the guests, the defender Alin Dobrosavlevici (31 years old) was eliminated in the 59th minute, after receiving two yellow cards, but the team from Sfântu Gheorghe resisted in numerical inferiority until the end.
Hungarian publications reported extensively on the duel between the two teams: “Cup of the Szeklerland”
“No goal was scored in the Szeklerland Cup match. Hungarian words in the stands, instead of hatred towards Hungarians. It was the first time the two teams met in an official match since the 2014-2015 season of the third league. A Szekler match took place in the Romanian Cup: first-league team FK Csíkszereda hosted second-league team Sepsi OSK in the first round of the group stage,” wrote journalists from nb1.hu.
The source recalls that there were no less than ten players of Hungarian origin in the starting formulas of the two teams.
“A match between two clubs that carry forward the spirit of Hungarian football from Transylvania. No tension, only football and respect,” notes the same publication.
Lorand Paszka's message before the match
Before the match, Csikszereda defender Lorand Paszka (29 years old) had a message in Hungarian.
“We wish them all the best, apart from this game, because it would be nice to get back to the first league as soon as possible. It would be great for the Szeklerland to have two first-echelon teams. I hope that both they and we can achieve our goals,” said Paszka.
After 11 rounds, Sepsi is 7th in Liga 2, while Csikszereda is 14th in Superliga with 13 points from 14 matches.
