The champion of Italy, in a mini-crisis before the derby with Inter

Napoli is going through a complicated period at the moment. After the failure in the championship recorded in the previous round, 0-1 on the field of Turin, Antonio Conte's formation also succumbed in the Champions League in the middle of the week. This time, however, the score was much tougher and totally unexpected, 2-6 in Eindhoven with PSV.

It was a match in which “I Ciucciarelli” opened the scoring, through Scott McTominay, but were then silenced by Dennis Man, the MVP of the match with a sensational “double”, and his teammates, the Dutch taking full advantage of the numerical superiority at the end of the meeting to make the “set”.

A group of Neapolitan supporters criticized the performance of their favorites, even reaching the point of demanding the resignation of Conte, the technician who at the end of the previous season brought the fourth “scudetto” in the club's history.

However, the Italian is not in such an ungrateful position to resort to such a gesture. At the moment, his team occupies the 3rd position in the Serie A standings, being only two lengths away from the leader AC Milan.

In addition, in the Champions League, Napoli is still ranked for a playoff spot (23), given that there are still five stages left to play until the final ranking is established, and the team at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona can still advance in the ranking.

Chivu's side aim for 8th straight win in all competitions!

On the other hand, the “nerazzurra” group is enjoying an impressive series of victories. Since their 3-4 'Derby d'Italia' defeat to Juventus on September 13, the Italian and European runners-up have racked up seven successes in all competitions, four of which have come in Serie A and the other three in the Champions League.

What's more, in the seven games, Cristi Chivu's students scored no less than 18 goals and conceded only two, an aspect highlighted by the Italian press after the last victory recorded by Inter, 4-0 on the ground of the Belgian champion, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, in the Champions League.

The good period that Giuseppe Meazza's team is going through is also reflected in the positions that the Milanese occupy in both the Serie A and UCL standings.

After a 1-0 win over Roma at the Olimpico in the previous round, Inter moved up to second place in Italy, level on points with Napoli and two lengths behind arch-rivals Milan, who currently occupy the top spot.

Chivu's side are also bottom of the podium in the single Champions League standings, being among the only five clubs with maximum points after the first three stages (15).

However, despite the remarkable performances of his team lately, the Romanian technician remains down to earth, stating that tonight's duel will be an extremely complicated one, on a field where his students will be treated with a lot of hostility.

What happened in the last matches matters less. It is certain that the Italian champion and vice-champion will fight. There are big ambitions from both sides and it will be a battle.

Every team has the desire to win. The result of this game will matter a lot for both clubs in the next period, so we want to go out with our heads held high. We are aware, however, that it will not be easy at all, especially since we are playing away, in a stadium that is extremely hostile to the opponents.
