Until Friday, October 17, the Champions Cup trophy won in 1986 was in front of FCSB. The latest changes have resulted in it being assigned to Stella.

Moreover, on the website of the international forum, the history of FCSB in the most important interclub competition begins with the 2017-2018 season, the one in which the club changed its name.

Official reaction from UEFA: “A final decision has been made”

UEFA has provided a first explanation with reference to the recent updates.

“Hello, as you probably know, a few months ago a final decision was made by a court in Romania in this regard”, said UEFA regarding the changes, according to golazo.ro.

UEFA referred to the decision from June of this year, by which Steaua won the record for the period 1947-1998. In short, the judges decided at that time:

  • CSA Steaua Bucharest holds the record of Stela from its foundation, 1947, until 1998.
  • CSA Steaua Bucharest is not the holder of the record for the period 1998-2003, while the football team carried out its activity under the umbrella of the Steaua Bucharest Football Club Association (AFC);
  • FCSB did not have the right to use the track record of the “former team”, i.e. the one related to the years 1947-1998, between 2003 and 2017, as long as Gigi Becali's company carried the name of Stella.

Next, the UEFA website has many things to adjust and clarify. There are many aspects inconsistent with reality. For example, on the FCSB profile, next to the best scorers, the names of Marius Lăcătuș or Gică Hagi appear. According to court rulings, the two did not evolve into the current champion of Romania.

FCSB contests the changes made by UEFA

In a dialogue with Gazeta, Adrian Căvescu, the lawyer of the Romanian champion, said that Becali's team submitted a request for clarification regarding this situation.

“We formulated and submitted a request for clarification to UEFA, now we are waiting for the answer. We are waiting for the answer and we will see what comes next, depending on the answer. Their decisions can be attacked, there are appeals. They are either being misled – and that is why we asked for clarification – or there is an unauthorized change of management. Of course it will be regulated. We do not know who reported and we do not have any sense of injustice. We just want the truth, we want transparency.

I saw that a change has already appeared. In the clubs section, the final that appears is Barcelona – FCSB. Yesterday it was deleted, today it reappeared. Basically, they put back the current logo of the FCSB and acknowledged the association with the FCSB. But UEFA cannot make such a decision without communicating to us as well.

We have the right to defend ourselves! Someone notified UEFA – we don't know who, in any case Talpan – and the forum involved must take the position of both sides. No one communicated anything to us, so we said it was a site error, a wrong update, and asked for clarification. After the clarifications, we already see that this thing has appeared”, said Căvescu, for GSP.ro.
