“$70 million is not the budget of a Hollywood blockbuster, but the price of 1,000 Shahed drones that did not reach their destination. Each of them could have reached Paris, London or Geneva. (All these machines) together would occupy the area of two football stadiums,” reads the SBS press release.

According to estimates of the Unmanned Systems Forces, for this money Russia could build a modern hospital or pay an annual salary of PLN 17,500. teachers. The SBS also calculated that if one thousand Shahedas were placed in a row, a chain 3.5 km long would be formed. “This 3.5-kilometer chain has been turned into scrap (by Ukrainian drone operators),” it stressed.

In February 2024, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the beginning of the construction of a new, separate type of army – the Unmanned Systems Forces. Major Robert “Madiar” Browdi, who also serves as deputy commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, became the commander of the SBS.

In addition to shooting down drones in Ukrainian airspace, SBS are involved in attacks on oil refineries and gas production plants in Russia. In August and September 2025, the SBS carried out attacks on refineries in the Bryansk and Samara regions that supply the Russian armed forces with fuel.

Zelensky said on August 21 that Ukraine had prepared and proposed an agreement to the US regarding the production of drones; the value of the agreement is USD 50 billion, it will be valid for five years and assumes the production of 10 million unmanned aerial vehicles per year. (PAP)
