Following a powerful explosion, two floors of an eight-level building in Sector 5 Bucharest collapsed, Friday morning, following a large-scale explosion. Following the incident in the Rahova neighborhood, at least three people died and 14 others were injured, including children.

The father of Costel Gâlcă (53 years old), the coach of Rapid Bucharest, is the administrator of a staircase in the building located in Calea Rahovei no. 317, the block where he lives, located right next to the staircase where the explosion occurred.
The technician from Bucharest grew up in that area, and the news of the explosion came as a strong slap. Gâlcă immediately called his father to make sure everything was okay.
“His father is fine, he didn't suffer anything. Costel called him as soon as he found out about the explosion in the building. Fortunately for them, his father answered and assured him that he was healthy. But until then he (no. Raed Arafat, head of the Department of Emergency Situations, said the explosion was most likely caused by a huge gas leak. Several tenants stated that since Thursday morning they felt a strong smell of gas in the block, according to hotnews.ro.
The National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) specified that Distrigaz cut off the gas supply to the affected block the day before: “It was found that the seal was broken!”.
The Capital Police announced, in a press release, that a criminal case was opened for culpable destruction, with disastrous consequences, under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the 5th District Court.
